The sky is the limit for Thoko

Late American animator Walt Disney once said, “If you can dream it, you can do it” and RPC Astrapak’s Thoko Dlamini based at Head Office says that her dreams are big as she reaches for the sky by progressing her knowledge of the business.

Curiosity and a keen interest in how aspects of the business work are what led Thoko to inquire about studying Supply Chain Management in July this year, and she has gone on to pass her first four modules with flying colours – two of them with distinctions!

We are never too old to learn, and nothing is impossible are the drivers behind Thoko (34), who started out as a cleaner for the company towards the end of 2016. “I went for an interview for administration and told them that I am very willing to study and that I wanted to learn about Human Resources, and then changed my mind to Supply Chain Management,” says Thoko.

She became curious about importing and exporting and how it all works, especially the relationships between South African and other countries that we work with. Thoko’s achievements are remarkable considering that she has no prior experience of the subject.

“I had to learn it all from scratch and the subject was quite hard, but it became easier to learn about it because I was so excited to know more.”

Amidst the jubilation of her excellent results, Thoko was very grateful to Robin Moore for the opportunity provided to her to embark on her studies; while she also thanked the Head Office team (Claire Spring, Natasha Persad, Lungi Hlope, Ilyaas Ally all from Supply Chain; Futhi Buthelezi and the HR team; as well as Michelle Bell, Douglas Slogrove, Lungi Sibiya and Sharyn Mowat) who all contributed their help along the way.

“This will be my big ticket when I qualify – my dreams are so big now!”
